Day-by-Day Rongai Route Kilimanjaro Climb Itinerary
🏞️ Day 1: Rongai Gate to Simba Camp (2,830m)
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
Habitat: Montane Forest
Distance: ~7km
You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha and driven around the base of Kilimanjaro to the Rongai Gate, near the Kenyan border. The trail winds through lush forests filled with Colobus monkeys, Hartlaub’s Turaco, and vibrant flora like Protea Kilimanjarica. Enjoy lunch before a gentle trek to Simba Camp, also known as First Cave Camp.

🌄 Day 2: Simba Camp to Third Cave Camp (3,900m)
Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Ascend gradually through moorland as you pass Second Cave, a lava-formed natural shelter. The trail splits here — the 5-day route continues to Third Cave Camp with scenic views of Mawenzi Peak and the summit in the distance. You’ll start to feel the altitude today, so walk “pole pole” (slowly, slowly).

Today’s trek across the high-altitude desert brings you to Kibo Hut, the base for your midnight summit attempt. This barren landscape offers views of the crater rim and glaciers. Your guide will brief you on summit gear, pace, and hydration.

🌋 Day 4: Summit Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Descend to Horombo Hut (3,700m)
Hiking Time: 6–8 hrs ascent / 6 hrs descent
Distance: 21km total (6km up, 15km down)
Habitat: Arctic to Moorland
At midnight, begin your final push to Uhuru Peak via Gilman’s Point (5,700m). This is the toughest stretch—cold, dark, and steep. But reaching Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa, is a moment you’ll never forget.
After summit photos, descend to Kibo Hut for lunch, then continue down to Horombo Hut for the night.

🌳 Day 5: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate – Drive to Arusha/Moshi
Hiking Time: 5–7 hours
Distance: ~20km
A scenic descent takes you through giant heather moorland and rainforest to Mandara Hut, then on to Marangu Gate. Celebrate with your guides, collect your summit certificate, and transfer to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
